Building a catapult, need help?

I'm building a catapult and would like to know if it is possible for me to stop the pivot arm at a angle closer to 90 degrees yet still have the projectile leave at a 45 degree angle. Doing this would increase the amount of power input into the throw and still have the projectile leave at the optimum angle.
