Girls on skateboards?

Ok, so I decided to start skateboarding just a couple weeks ago. I really wanted to take up surfing, but seeing as I'm from Nebraska, that's not exactly possible. There's a lot more concrete here than beaches. So far, I can just ride it and kickturn 180...and I am just starting to work on ollies. I was just wondering what people think of girl skateboarders. My parents look at me like I'm crazy, and my friends think I'm nuts. But when I'm on that board, I have a lot of fun. I know it's stupid to care about what others think, but it's hard not to. My biggest dream is to get really good and show them all what they're missing out on. So...what is the opinion on girls who have a love for skating?
