How do I unplug my ear?

I'm getting over a cold and one of my ears is plugged. I went to the doctors and I don't have an ear or sinus infection. He said I was just congested, so i took decongestant medicine. It didn't work. It's been plugged for 5 days and I can't really hear out of it. It's popped twice in those five days and it really hurt, but then it immediately plugged back up again. What can I do? It's really annoying.
